Tomorrow, March 11th, marks the banning of animal testing on raw ingredients of cosmetics in Europe!  I am so very, very excited!  (The ban on testing on finished products went into effect in 2003, and caused nary a blip on the radar of any large company — that just goes to show you those PETA-approved animal-testing-free “caring consumer” labels, and those statements companies make on their websites that they “don’t test their finished products on animals” are useless, doesn’t it?  Seriously, ONLY if you see the leaping bunny logo will you know if anything is actually animal-testing free.

I wrote about the ban before — you can read about it here.  Unfortunately, there are still several animal-testing loopholes that won’t be closed until 2013 (reproductive toxicity, repeat dose toxicity, and toxicokinetics animal testing is still allowed) — so I wouldn’t describe all European companies as being animal-testing-free quite yet.   But still — it’s a HUGE leap forward and a cause for celebration!  (Now we just have to follow this up globablly . . . )

Does this mean that we can buy L’Oreal now, or are the still not kosher?

Well, L’Oreal is still free to take advantage of several loopholes, so I won’t be buying any L’Oreal products till 2013, anyway. But L’Oreal is definitely more animal-friendly than it once was!

Hi girls! You have so many cruelty-free companies in your country…do you really need to buy L’Oreal cosmetics? They are not even good quality ones..I mean about their ingredients,I won’t give my money to that company till 3013!:)

Seriously, I don’t think people should essentially change their way of shopping next 2013, companies who choosen to go cruelty-free a long time ago have to be more respected…but this is just my opinion, of course!!!

    Emily with a little advance..

    “Happy 2°blog anniversary”!!!

It should be tomorrow, right? If my memory is still working well!:)

    Hi Raffaella!

Oh you’re so SWEET to remember my blog anniversary! I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for two years already! One of the best things about this blog is I’ve met you through it. :)

Ha! I’m amused to hear L’Oreal won’t be getting money from you until 3013!
