These are cruel companies that PETA lists as commissioning animal testing:

The following companies manufacture products that ARE tested on animals. For a complete listing of products manufactured by a company on this list, please visit the company’s Web site or contact the company directly for more information. Companies on this list may manufacture individual lines of products without animal testing (e.g., Clairol claims that its Herbal Essences line is not animal-tested). They have not, however, eliminated animal testing from their entire line of cosmetics and household products.

Similarly, companies on this list may make some products, such as pharmaceuticals, that are required by law to be tested on animals. However, the reason for these companies’ inclusion on the list is not the animal testing that they conduct that is required by law, but rather the animal testing (of personal care and household products) that is not required by law.

  1. Swifer Wet Jet Harmful? - Dogs - Page 2 - City-Data Forum

[...] It’s not harmful, as in it won’t kill your dog, but we won’t use it. We prefer to keep chemicals to a minimum, especially when they are at dog level and use diluted vinegar for just about every single cleaner. We have swiffer-like mop and attach a microfiber cloth to it, and spray it down with the vinegar solution. Works wonderfully, without leaving harsh chemicals behinds. A huge reason for that is I refuse to support companies that test on animals, and Procter & Gamble is one of the worst out there. Cruel Companies that Test on Animals | Living Cruelty Free [...]

I really would like a product like the swifer; but will not buy one. It is made by proctor and gamble. They do such horriffic and vile things to animals.

You may not use their liquid for the mop; but why did you buy the mop? They made it, also.

I didn’t see Alberto Culver (and it’s subsidiary St. Ives) listed anywhere. From what I know St. Ives is cruelty free (though 100% or 50% I don’t know) but last I heard Alberto Culver is not a cruelty free company but supposed to have been working on becoming that way.

    Hi Glenda!

I think you’re AWESOME for not supporting Procter & Gamble. So awesome!

Oh, but there are plenty of faux-Swiffers out there — the commenter above has a swiffer-LIKE mop — they did not support P&G in any way by buying that. Most Swiffer-like mops predate the Swiffer, and use microfiber cloths instead of environment-destroying throw away sheets. So you don’t have to support P&G buy buying a mop. Thank goodness! :) Most supermarkets/hardware stores sell them — if you google “microfiber mop” you’ll find tons of them out there. Method even makes one, if you want to buy one from a really ethical company — I wrote a post about their microfiber mop once:

    http://www.livingcrueltyfree.com/2008/03/27/the-method-microfiber-o-mop-55-stars/

Though unfortunately as you can see from the review I did not like the mop very much — I ended up buying another microfiber mop from a supermarket that works much better. (Not a P&G branded mop, I assure you!)

    Hi Mary!

Gosh, unfortunately I only list companies that ask their suppliers to promise to not test products on animals as cruelty-free (that’s what I call 100%-cruelty-free). I suspect Alberto Culver and St. Ives don’t ask their suppliers to promise not to test on animals, so that’s why they’re not on the list — I call those companies 50%-cruelty-free. I’m sure they’re great companies, and as soon as they take the Leaping Bunny pledge to not let their suppliers test on animals, I’ll be happy to add them to the list!

    Regards,
    Emily

im disgusted. i cant believe its actually a LAW to add cruelty to medical stuff!!! that to me is complete BULL. in my eyes theres absolutely no excuse for cruelty. i support the idea of testing on PPL, if they volunteer (like some apparently have), but anyone/thing FORCED to to tested on i dont support. we’re called HUMANS, not INhumans! why do so many HUMANS insist on acting INhuman???
