L’Occitane Aromachologie Purifying Deodorant (4/5 stars)
This was one of the first cruelty-free deodorants I tried, and it is the best. L’Occitane products are wonderful — they’re cruelty free, high-quality, beautifully packaged, and from Provence! If L’Occitane products weren’t so expensive, I’d buy a lot more of them. Another nice thing about L’Occitane is that it has a really nice mens’ line of toiletries that have a Provencal theme but are not girly at all — they have scents of cedar, citrus, clove, nutmeg, vetiver, bay leaf, etc. I have not tried them but they look nice. Even the womens’ stuff has a lot of scents that are close to unisex — the eucalyptus, mandarin, and orange leaf have great fragrances and aren’t too feminine (the rose and lavender lines are very feminine, though). In the Bay area alone there are 10 L’Occitane stores, so it’s easy to try out their testers at the mall.
Anyway, I really like L’Occitane Aromachologie Purifying Deodorant. It really works. No odor, no perspiration, no white streaks, quick drying, and it lasts forever — I’ve occasionally not had too deodorize for up to 48 hours at a time. Its fragrance seems pretty unisex to me, so I think a guy could totally wear it, but if not, L’Occitane also produces a deodorant in their mens’ line — L’Occitan Roll On Deodorant — which I have not tried but is probably just as good.
There are a few drawbacks I’ve found to Aromachologie Purifying Deodorant. First, it has aluminum in it, which has been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimers, and probably makes it not organic. However, I have yet to find a deodorant that works without aluminum, so I buy it anyway. Second, it’s really expensive — $15. Third, it has a sort of herbal fragrance, which I’m sure a lot of people like — it’s kind of lemon-and-bay-leaves scented — luckily it’s very mild, so I don’t mind it too much. For those reasons, I’ve marked it a 4/5 star product instead of 5/5. But overall, it’s a great deodorant and if you find it on sale at the L’Occitane store, it’s definitely worth it.
L’Occitane Aromachologie Purifying Deodorant is available at Amazon.com for $16.00.

I love L’Occitane, but some of their products smell too strongly for me (I tend to be allergic to perfumes). My favourite product by this company would probably be their Immortelle Eye Cream.
